 ranceDance is not just putting on a bandanna
and dancing to loud music. It is an introspective journey. With the
assistance of a trained and experienced facilitator, it can be a
transformational experience.
Facilitators
The role of the TranceDance facilitator is to provide the environment and space
for the dance. While each individual's dance is unique and their experience
the result of their own inner journey, it is the facilitator who ensures
that the the atmosphere is conducive to a maximum experience for each individual.
The facilitator selects the music, manages the
technology, ensures that the space is as physically safe as possible,
sets and balances the energy of the space, and monitors the experience.
The facilitator is trained to remain unobtrusive and accessible for
support.
Spotters: Guardians and
Witnesses
In addition to the facilitator, there are always those who do not wear bandannas
and serve as spotters. These individuals have all experienced TranceDance,
and find their role to be an important and sacred trust.
The primary role of Spotters is to ensure the physical
safety of the dancers, while being unobtrusive and never interfering
with the dance. In that role, they observe the Dance as it unfolds
and assist in the facilitation of the experience.

Becoming A Facilitator or
Spotter
The Natale Institute holds facilitation training programs periodically in a
variety of locations worldwide. See Wilbert Alix's TranceDance.com web
site for information on the current training schedule.
Apprentices may
participate in the TranceDance as spotters, and with additional experience
and training, as facilitator assistants. In this capacity, the apprentice
constructs the music, arranges the setting, and co-creates the event.
This can be a meaningful step toward becoming a certified
facilitator.
